AAAS Science and Human Rights Coalition

Area of Activity VI: Outreach and Communication

We aim to expand the impact of the Coalition's work by expanding the Coalition membership and building bridges with scientific, engineering, and health professionals as well as the human rights community.

The objectives of the Outreach and Communication Committee include:

  • Increase awareness of connections among science, technology and human rights among scientific and engineering associations and their members;
  • Increase and diversify the engagement of scientific and engineering associations and their members in human rights activities;
  • Expand the disciplinary representation of scientific and engineering associations, and individuals engaged in human rights activities including from among: students, the physical sciences, engineering, the health sciences, minorities, indigenous peoples and non US-based scientists and engineers;
  • Support and facilitate the outreach efforts of the working groups;
  • Increase the understanding within the human rights community of the value of applying scientific tools, techniques and technologies to human rights problems.
Current Projects
Student Outreach

Work with Coalition member and affiliated organizations to assist in recruiting and appointing a Student Delegate to the Coalition.

Student Engagement

Engage students and student associations, in particular those from engineering disciplines, in the Coalition by organizing a student competition to take place at a future Coalition meeting.
