AAAS Science and Human Rights Program

AAAS Science and Human Rights Coalition

Launched
AAAS Science and Human Rights Coalition
January 14-16, 2009
AAAS Headquarters | 1200 New York Avenue, NW
Washington, DC

After a full year of preparation and deliberation, the AAAS Science and Human Rights Coalition has been launched!

The Launch of the AAAS Science and Human Rights Coalition was an opportunity to learn about the Coalition, its areas of activity, and how you and your scientific association can become a part of this important new initiative, to discover the varied contributions that science and scientists can make to human rights, and have the opportunity to equip your scientific association with information and tools needed for robust engagement in human rights.

Opening the Launch, on the evening of January 14th, were three distinguished speakers, including Mary Robinson, former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and former President of Ireland. The following day-and-a-half were devoted to paving the way forward, and included presentations, training workshops, and planning meetings to prepare the Coalition for its role in making human rights a reality for all.

View the Launch Agenda to find out more. All scientific associations, professional societies, and science academies, as well as individual scientists, were welcome to attend the Launch.

The Launch was held at AAAS Headquarters, located at 1200 New York Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20005.
