December 10, 2010 marks Human Rights Day, the day in 1948 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In celebration of Human Rights Day, the AAAS Scientific Responsibility, Human Rights and Law Program is conducting training sessions for members of the AAAS community. The training will address the following questions:

Science and Human Rights Coalition Meeting. The next AAAS Coalition meeting will include topics ranging from "Evaluating the US Human Rights Record: The Universal Periodic Review," to "STEM Education: Diversity, Human Rights and New Curricula," and from "The Right to Benefit from Science: Engaging Your Association in the UN Process" to "After Innocence," a film chronicling the stories of eight individuals exonerated following the application of DNA and other scientific analyses.

May 5-June 16, 2011:

Neuroscience and the Law Webinar Series. AAAS and the Section of Science & Technology Law of the American Bar Association are co-sponsoring a series of four webinars on neuroscience and the law. The webinars will take place on Thursdays starting May 5 and ending on June 16, 2011. Featured topics include: memory and lie detection, substance dependence, competency, and violence.

June 6-7, 2011:

Clinical Trials Conference. AAAS, in collaboration with the National Library of Medicine and the Friends of the National Library of Medicine, is co-sponsoring a conference at the National Institutes of Health to address the current state and future of clinical trials.Click here to register for the conference.

Workshop on Responsible Research Practices in a Changing Research Environment. This workshop was held at the AAAS Annual Meeting, February 17, 2011 in Washington, D.C. The workshop highlighted emerging issues related to a changing research environment, and present options for how scientists can navigate their way through this rapidly changing environment.
