The Science and Human Rights Program (SHRP) is a unit of the AAAS Directorate
for Science and Policy Programs and is supported in part through the AAAS budget.
However, since its establishment in 1977, the Program has been supported principally
by foundations, including major core support from the Ford Foundation, the John
D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, and the Mertz Gilmore Foundation.
Other funding organizations have included the John Merck Fund, the General
Service Foundation, the European Human Rights Foundation, the J. Roderick MacArthur
Foundation, the U.S. Institute for Peace, the Arca Foundation, the Oak Foundation,
the Richard Lounsberry Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Institute
for Civil Society, the John Templeton Foundation, the Christopher Reynolds Foundation,
the Asia Foundation, and individual donors.
Co-sponsored projects have been supported by Metagora (OECD), Misereor, and
the development cooperation sections of the governments of Denmark, the Netherlands,
and the United Kingdom.
