AAAS Scientific Responsibility, Human Rights and Law Program

iMMAP

iMMAP is a pioneering humanitarian organization that for more than a decade has led the way in the effective use of information management practices and principles in service to the world's most vulnerable populations.

The iMMAP team was formed in late-1998, leading the first internationally-coordinated effort to combine information management, sociology and Geographic Information System technology to define the scourge of landmines and explosive remnants of war and change the way their impact on society is measured. iMMAP remains the premier humanitarian information management organization, guiding international crisis responders who work to alleviate the suffering of those most in need.

iMMAP has developed the OASIS system to deliver user-friendly security information tools for data entry, analysis, mapping, reporting, and data sharing. This information management tool was originally developed to aid in demining, and is now being used in Afghanistan, Ethiopia, and Iraq.
