CIIDH

CIIDH is a Guatemalan nongovernmental, nonpartisan, internationally-oriented, scientific organization. It was founded in Guatemala City in 1993 to conduct human rights research and support the work of grassroots organizations in this field.

In general, CIIDH’s activities have focused on developing activities that apply scientific methods to areas or subject matter that other organizations currently are not working on, and training members of grassroots and human rights organizations in methods of research and analysis. In this framework, and after assessing the situation of the human rights sector in Guatemala, CIIDH identified the objectives that appear below:

• Compile and process information about human rights violations in Guatemala during the past thirty-five years so that it can be used by social scientists, politicians, Guatemalan and international organizations, and any Guatemalan citizen seeking to understand the historical truth and past and present crimes.
  
  
• Disseminate the results of the research conducted as part of the historical memory of the Guatemalan people that demonstrates the magnitude of the crimes committed against them, primarily in the context of the governmental counterinsurgency policy.
  
  

• Contribute to the training of members of grassroots organizations by providing them with knowledge about basic methodology of scientific human rights research, as well as related aspects of data processing and electronic communication.
