Biotechnology in Africa: Why the Controversy

Description:This paper is devoted to presenting the nature and significance of the persistent poor performance of agriculture with associated widespread poverty, and the ability of biotechnology to resolve Africa's food crises taking into account its potential and perceived effects on the continent's enormous biological diversity. It is intended to present an understanding of what are the real dimensions of these issues, analyze the need and progress being made by different countries and identify factors and measures that should determine progress in future improvement in agriculture.
