Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA)

Description:Sida (Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) is the Swedish government agency for bilateral international development cooperation and most of Sweden's cooperation with Central and Eastern Europe. Sida's task is to create conditions conductive to change and to socially, economically and environmentally sustainable development. In order to solve the major challenges of today - poverty, environmental degradation, and conflicts – Sida promotes international co-operative efforts. The overall goal of Swedish development cooperation is to raise the standard of living of poor people in the world. The Swedish Parliament has adopted the following six specific objectives to achieve this overall goal: Economic growth Economic and political independence Economic and social equality Democratic development in society The long-term sustainable use of natural resources and protection of the environment Equality between men and women Much of the Swedish humanitarian assistance accumulated through Sida is channelled through Swedish NGOs.
