Each year the Science and Human Rights Program (SHRP) hosts a reception at the AAAS Annual Meeting. In the past, we have used that reception to honor one or more scientists who, through action and example, have promoted human rights, usually at great personal risk. In 2007, the reception will highlight a new SHRP project area.

The GaTHR (Geospatial Technologies and Human Rights) Project of the Science and Human Rights Program explores and develops the application of geospatial technologies to uncovering and preventing human rights abuses. Lars Bromley, the lead AAAS staff member on the project, will briefly discuss our work to date, and a photo exhibit highlighting that work will be on display during the reception.

The presentation will begin around 5:00pm. Reception is open to meeting participants and the general public. Complimentary refreshments will be served after the presentation.

For more information please contact AAAS staff member Jana Asher.
